An Author’s Birthday At The Snow!

One of the main reasons I love September is because it’s my birthday month. In New Zealand, it’s also the first month of spring, and is a total badass renewal month with daffodils and lambs frolicking, so there’s that to like about it as well.

I’ve always loved doing cool things on my birthday, but in the last year or two, I’ve been a bit slack about it. So this year, I decided to have an awesome birthday weekend, and organised a trip to the snow!

We got in a day of skiing, which wasn’t the best snow of the year (too late in the year), but I had an awesome lesson with an instructor (my birthday present from hubby) and felt like I’d really gotten better by the end of the lesson. He even said I was ready to leave the beginners area. Heehee.

We stayed at this old historic hotel called the Chateau, which is set into the side of the mountain and has atmosphere leaking out through the cracks.

I’d never stayed there before, but had always wanted to try it out. It turned out to be awesome! It’s less than ten minutes from the ski field, the rooms were lovely, and the restaurants cosy and inviting.

We even had a high tea, with fancy napkins, tiny cakes and delicious tea served in delicate cups! It was made extra special because we had a clear view out the window of Mt Ngaruhoe—also known as Mt. Doom from the Lord of the Rings movies.

All in all, a successful birthday for this happy author!
