New Years Resolutions

Okay, let’s talk resolutions. To be honest, I’m against resolutions in general, because I feel like there’s this weight of expectation around them that most of us can’t actually live up to.

I prefer to begin the year by setting my goals. I generally have two to three big goals that I want to achieve in a particular year, and then everything else is about how I actually can achieve those goals.

So here they are:

Goal 1:

Write books and love doing it! This goes without saying, given that I’m a writer. But I’m still gonna write it here. It’s important to keep this front and centre, because I not only want to write books, I want to write the kind of compelling books that readers can’t put down. I want to write books where readers stay up all night reading, even though they have to get up early to go to work, and they have a really important meeting the next day that they know they’ll be terrible at if they stay up to keep reading my book. But they do it anyway. That’s my goal. 🙂

Goal 2:

Lose weight and keep it off easily! Health is important. As a writer, I spend a lot of time sitting on my butt. I need to lose weight and keep it off, and also exercise more. That’s what I’m going to do this year!

Goal 3:

Be adventurous! I used to be more adventurous, and I think I’ve lost that a little. Now that my daughter is a little older, we can take her with us on our adventures. So we’re going to do a few things this year that push my boundaries (to be fair, I’m a clumsy author, we’re talking about things that make me feel adventurous, not other people!!)

I hope you have some awesome goals to work on this year!
