I'm excited, pleased, anxious, nervous and happy to announce that Fire Mage, the first book in my Firecaller series is finally published!
It was the first book I ever wrote, and it took me ten years to finish. It was pretty terrible back then, so I put it in my top drawer and kept on writing. Seven books later, I went back to it. The characters were calling to me from that stuffy drawer – they wanted out.
I thought I'd do a quick tidy up, a few revisions, and it would be fine to put up. Turns out that it took a whole lot more than that. A lot of time, effort and emotional angst went into fixing this book up to a point where I could feel happy to put it out. The characters remained the same as the ones in my head, but it turns out that you learn an awful lot as an author after seven books.
I still love this book. I think it's one of my favourites, and this launch means more to me than the first book I ever put up on Amazon. I'm not sure why, I guess it's because it's the first book I ever wrote. It's the people I wrote about before I understood about genres, characterization, how to plot a novel, how to pace it, how to do anything related to writing really. 🙂 It's what came out when I first started writing, and I love it.
I hope you do too.
